trembles and bursts

16 April 2010 § 1 Comment

Hello, Earth, it seems that lately
you’ve been a little shaky,
a little quaky, lately–

Are you nervous? itchy? in shock?

Are you tired of being run about upon
(it’s been several millenia)?

Is there something you’ve seen
that’s bigger,
that’s coming,
that is awesome and awful?

The trees have squeezed out new leaves
at the tips of their flower-bedight limbs
and you’ve done your own bursting;

please, though, Earth, know that it hurts us too.
